Trouble
with the Tucker Twins is a children’s picture book, written by Rose Impey
and Maureen Galvani. It is a story about young schoolboy Mick and his struggle
with his tormentors, the Tucker Twins. They make his life a living hell at
school and it is only when one of them is away that he finally understands what
his Mum was talking about; that all bullies are soft inside!
The most prominent feature of this book is the story it tells
through illustrations. There are usually only a few lines of text on each page,
allowing the many and detailed illustrations to add depth to the story beyond
the words.
This book is particularly useful because of the undertone of
bullying as an issue in schools. The story begins with Mick not wanting to go
to school because the Tucker Twins bully him. Students may relate to Mick in
this regard and feel better about their own personal situation after seeing
Tony Tucker repeatedly burst into tears because his brother Tom wasn’t there.
Students who are potentially bully others may get a sense of perspective in
this story as well.
This book would be best suited for reception/early primary
students.
