About Me: Josh Rouse

G'day everyone, my name is Josh Rouse. I am 22 years old and have lived in Adelaide my whole life. I am a former Sacred Heart College student and am currently studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary and Middle). Upon finishing Year 12 in 2007, I headed straight to Uni in the hope of eventually becoming a journalist (despite my grades not being terribly good!) where I began studying a Communications course. After a year and a half of that I realised I had a strong distaste towards it and after visiting an Indigenous community in the Northern Territory decided that I thought teaching would be the way to go.

I currently work at Event Cinemas at Marion and have been for 3 and a half years. I was a Youth Minister for 2 years at my local parish as well.

I love my sport (particularly football and basketball, despite the fact I'm not great at either!) and I hope to become an English teacher because I take spelling and grammatical errors as personal insults. I'm only half joking.

I look forward to sharing more on this blog in the future. Many thanks,

Josh Rouse.

Daniel Kelly - Introduction

Hi,

My name is Daniel Kelly. I am a second year student in the MBET (formerly LBPM) program at the University of South Australia. This is a brief introduction as a part of the online blogger requires for the English, Language and Literacies course that I am currently undertaking.

My life has always revolved around the outdoors, and more specifically sport. At the age of five I began to play cricket as my school. I continued playing cricket for my schools each and every year of schooling until the completion of year 12. Along the way I also played cricket for a couple of clubs. The first club I played at was the Walkerville Cricket Club at the age of 12. After just one season at Walkerville I progressed to playing at a higher competition at the Prospect District Cricket Club until the end of the last season.

Coinciding with my cricket was my deep love for AFL football. I began playing for the school team at grade 2 and continued playing for school teams through all my schooling. At age 10 I joined the Broadview Football Club and recently played my first Div 1 A grade game. Along the way I also played football for North Adelaide in Junior development teams.

My current interests include football, gym, cars, movies, gaming and anything outdoors. I work part-time at woolworths in the groceries department to support my study.

This week I read a children’s picture book titled “My Funny Family” by Keith Faulkner. It was extremely interesting to pull apart the many details of the book including the formatting, language and literacy.

Hayley Wells: Children's Book - Rainbow Magic

Rainbow Magic

By Shirley Barber

SUMMARY:
Rainbow Magic has been a favourite read for many children including myself when I was little and there have been further editions created with different illustrations to this one shown above.
This beautifully created story about a girl with her grandmother and little dog in the meadows invites students to go on a magical journey as well as think about whether or not they believe in fairies. The little girl goes into the woods with her dog and the warning her grandmother gave her; not to go under any rainbows.
The little girl finds a pot of gold under a rainbow in the woods on journey and doesn't listen to the warning of her grandmother. As the girl and her dog shrink to a tiny size, they realise they've become fairies. Their quest back to their grandmothers house is full of adventure when they meet a village full of fairies and they help the little girl and her dog get back to her grandmother's house. The grandmother grows old as she watches the beautiful fairies along with her grand daughter roam the meadows outside her home.
First published in 1997, Shirley Barber not only was the author, but the illustrator as well displaying bright and presentable colours making the reader instantly attracted to the book. The illustrations in the story are just as important as the text because the images show things in the story that the text doesn't tell. This makes the reading experience all the more enjoyable for young students.

USE IN THE CLASS:
Rainbow Magic can be used in the classroom in various ways depending what the focus is on. Here are some suggestions:
- What else could happen if the little girl went under the rainbow? The children can create their own situation in the story.
- Add another character into the story, Who? What? Where would they be?
- Children tell the story from the grandmother's perspective.
- Children make a storyboard
- Instead of a rainbow and a pot of gold, what else could she have found?

LINKS TO ACARA:
I recommend the use of this book for a year 3 level as students can "Create imaginative texts based on characters, setting and events from students' own and other cultures using visual features for example perspective, distance and angle," according to the strand, Literature and sub-strand, Creating Literature as stated by ACARA (2012).
This book is easy to modify and adapt for any purpose making it easy to use for cross-curriculum purposes.

Introduction: Hayley Anne Wells

Introduction to

Hayley Anne Wells

My name is Hayley Wells and I’d like to introduce myself as part of our first weeks’ requirement after setting up this group blog. I am a very enthusiastic and happy person who loves sport. I play netball weekly and I am currently studying Bachelor of Education (MBET) at Mawson Lakes University. When I’m not studying I work at Best and Less as a supervisor. I enjoy going out with friends, reading, exercising at the gym and sewing.

I graduated from Salisbury East High School and had the pleasure of being taught by two amazing teachers that inspired me to become a teacher. I would consider it a fulfilling achievement if I could be that inspiration to my future students.

Thanks for reading; I look forward to reading your introductions.

Introduction- Dylan Evans

Hi there my name is Dylan Evans. I am 19 years old and am currently in my second year of studying a Bachelor of Education. I look forward to a teaching career specifying in Physical Education and history.

I am very passionate about soccer. I’m currently in my 15th year of playing and have been supporting Chelsea FC for my entire life. In fact, my first sentence was “go you blues”. This was due to being brainwashed by my grandad at a very early age.

Throughout my schooling I have always enjoyed English as a subject and reading has always been a part of my life. Lately, I have been very interested in reading biographies of sports and music people (such as “Scar Tissue”: The biography of Anthony Keidis).

I look forward to expressing my thoughts on this blog each week and hope you enjoy reading them.

Cheers,
Dylan.
